My Sister of the Heart & the Art April 1, 2021

Image
Painting was a way for my grief to flow out, and to just be when being was too hard. It got me to smile again when I didn't think it possible. Painting created a sister out of a stranger, and now we paint and smile a lot and "just being" is how we roll. There's a reason art is considered a therapy.  Thanks Patti Slattery . 🎨🖌️♥️  My favorite photo of Patti & I

Oceanside Pier May 8, 2021

Patti picked me up to cheer me up and we went to sketch in Oceanside. She said in the middle of the road to stop traffic while I hobbled across. We sat on benches in the sidewalk behind the pier and just enjoyed the day. Sketching was incidental. We are catfish sandwiches at Miss Kim's That Boy Good (weird name).

San Diego Botanical Gardens

July 30, 2020 I helped start an urban sketching group in North County which ended up having about 10-12 people in it. Patti joined and my first trip to the San Diego Botanical Garden was with this group. We were all masked because it was early days of Covid  What a beautiful place! Trails wind through flanked by indigenous plants, trees, and flowers. My favorite spot is a pond full of koi with lily pads floating on top like crowning jewels if color. It's a peaceful quiet spot tucked into a little forested area. I don't remember if I painted anything that day or if Patti and I just assumed through. I bought a season pass to come back but Covid had already started in March. Covid got worse and the park shut down for a while. That's ended up being one of only two times I went. The second was with Dwight.

Kate Sessions Park

March 31, 2020 Patti and I went for a drive to Chula Vista to see Richard Mooberry's boat but never made it. We ended up in a beautiful park overlooking most of San Diego. It was lush and green with rolling hills. There weren't many people there and the weather was lovely. We sat on a bench in the shade of a large tree and sketched what we saw below us towards Mission Bay. I included the three friends sitting together in front of us  Great time!

Watercolor in Shades of Purple

Patti and I trekked off to Valley View this morning to do some painting at the at the Key's Creek Lavender Farm. It was a windy trip the way we went. We arrived just before opening and were the second car to arrive. The first thing we saw was two yoga-panted guru-guys with their little ponytails sticking out in back. They must have just completed a yoga session on a platform by a Buddha statue under a bougainvillea draped archway. Bowing to each other one walked into his tiny tent. Okay, whatever...to each his own! We weren't there for the yoga positions, but we were pausing from the everyday norm to nurture our inner artists. I'll be leaving in September, so these gal-pal artist adventures are important to pack in. Patti is getting quite good and probably owes that to the fact she's been concentrating on tonal studies and sketches. Whatever it is, it's working! After doing an oil painting at Crystal Cove, she's now falling in love with oil medium. Today we se...
